Cookie Policy

This page explains how cookies are used on the Wilder Plant Guide website. It is written for visitors who want to know what is stored in their browser, why it is there, and which settings they can change. It is not marketing copy.

What this policy covers

Cookies are small files that a website asks your browser to keep. They let a site remember that you already closed a notice, that you chose a language or display setting, or that a page was slow to load. On Wilder Plant Guide they are used for the practical work of running an informational plant-care site, not for building advertising profiles.

Strictly necessary cookies

These keep the site working. They remember that your cookie choices have been recorded, hold a session together while you move between pages, and protect forms from being submitted twice. They cannot be switched off through the cookie banner, because without them a request to load a page or send the contact form would not complete correctly.

Preference cookies

If you accept them, these remember small choices so you do not repeat yourself on every visit, such as dismissing a notice or keeping a reading view consistent. Turning them off does not break the site; you may simply see the same prompt again on a later visit.

Analytics cookies

If you accept them, these help us see which plant guides are read most and where visitors stop scrolling. Reports are viewed in aggregate, so we learn that a page about watering is popular in the evening rather than who read it. You can decline them and still use every article on the site.

Cookies we do not use

Wilder Plant Guide does not run advertising networks, retargeting pixels, or cross-site tracking on this website. There is no login area and no shopping cart, so no account or payment cookies are set. If this ever changes, this policy will be updated and the cookie banner will ask for your consent again.

You decide what stays in your browser. Nothing on this site requires you to accept cookies to read a plant guide.

Use the cookie banner on your first visit to accept or decline the optional categories, and reopen it later from the site footer whenever you want to change your mind. Declining optional cookies never limits access to the six care guides, the about page, or the contact form.

Your controls

Managing and clearing cookies

Every major browser lets you see the cookies stored for a site, delete individual entries, and block new ones. The exact wording differs, but the path is usually found under settings, then privacy, then site data. If you block all cookies for this domain, the site will still load and the articles remain readable; only the saved cookie preference and any remembered display choice will be lost on your next visit.

Clearing cookies is safe here. It does not delete your messages, because this site does not keep an account for you, and it does not cancel any request you have already sent through the contact form.

What a cookie stores
A short label and a small amount of text, such as a preference value or a random session identifier. It is not a program and it cannot read files on your device.
How long they last
Session cookies disappear when you close the browser window. Persistent cookies carry an expiry date, which for the preference cookie is set to about twelve months so the site does not ask the same question every week.
Who can read them
Cookies set by this site are read by this site. If an optional analytics service is enabled, its script reads only its own cookie, and it is not given your name or email address.
How to withdraw consent
Open the cookie banner from the footer and switch optional categories off. The change takes effect immediately and the recorded consent is replaced, so you are not asked again unless the policy changes.
Where to ask questions
Write to [email protected] or use the contact page. Cookie and privacy questions are handled by the same team that publishes the plant guides, Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Cookie questions, answered

Short answers to the questions that come up most often about this policy and the banner. If yours is not here, the contact page is the fastest route.

Do I have to accept cookies to read the guides? +

No. Every article, from choosing easy-care houseplants to building a simple care routine, is served without optional cookies. Only the strictly necessary ones run, and those exist so the page loads and the cookie choice is remembered.

How do I change my choice after accepting? +

Open the cookie banner again from the footer link and set the optional categories to off. Your earlier consent is replaced straight away. If you prefer, clearing cookies for this domain in your browser settings has the same effect and the banner will reappear on your next visit.

Does the contact form set its own cookies? +

The form uses a session cookie so your message is not submitted twice if you refresh the page, and so the confirmation screen appears correctly. It holds nothing about you beyond that single session and disappears when you close the browser.

Will this policy change? +

It can, if the site adds or removes a tool that stores data. When that happens the wording on this page is updated and the cookie banner asks for your consent again, so an old choice is never carried over to a new setup.

Who do I contact about a cookie question? +

Email [email protected] or send a note through the contact page. The project team answers Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and cookie questions go to the same inbox as plant-care questions.
