Privacy Policy
This page explains the privacy policy for visitors of Wilder Plant Guide. It is not marketing copy. It sets out what we collect when you read our plant guides, what we do with it, how long we keep it, and how you can ask us to change or delete it.

This privacy policy applies to the guides, article pages and contact form published on this site.

What we collect, and why we need it
We keep collection to the minimum that keeps the guides working. If you only read the site, we collect very little. If you write to us, we collect what we need to answer you.
Reading the site
Standard technical data — the page you requested, the time of the request, the type of device and browser, and an approximate region. We use it to keep the pages loading properly and to see which guides readers find useful, such as the ones on lighting or watering.
Writing to us
Your name, email address, the subject of your message and the content you send through the contact form, including any question about a plant in a small flat or office. We use it only to reply and to keep a record of the exchange.
Cookies and settings
A small number of cookies remember your cookie choices and keep basic site functions stable. Optional cookies for measuring traffic are only set if you allow them in the cookie banner, and you can change that choice at any time.
What we do not do
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not rent contact lists. We do not ask for payment details on this site, because nothing here is sold. We do not collect information about children on purpose; if you believe a child has sent us personal data, write to us and we will remove it.
How long we keep information
Messages sent through the contact form
Kept while we deal with your question and for a reasonable period afterwards, so we can pick up an older thread if you write again. When that period ends, the message and your contact details are deleted.
Technical server records
Held for a short period by our hosting provider for security and troubleshooting, then removed or aggregated so they no longer identify a single visitor.
Cookie preference
Stored in your browser so the banner does not reappear on every visit. It stays until you clear cookies in your browser or change your choice in the cookie settings.
Measurement data
If you allow optional measurement cookies, the reports we see are aggregated page and traffic figures. They are kept for a limited period and are not used to build a profile of you as an individual.
Who can see your information
We do not pass your details around. A short list of service providers handles parts of the site on our behalf, and they may only use your information for that purpose.
Hosting and email
Our hosting provider stores the site and its server records. Our email provider carries messages sent through the contact form, so a copy of your message sits in that mailbox until we delete it.
Measurement tools
If you allow optional cookies, a measurement tool shows us which articles get read. You can refuse these cookies and still use every guide on the site.
Legal requests
We may have to share information if a lawful request requires it. When that happens we share only what the request covers, and we tell you about it unless we are legally prevented from doing so.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us about your information at any time. We answer privacy requests in the order they arrive, during office hours.
- Ask what we hold Write to [email protected] and we will tell you what personal information we hold about you and where it came from.
- Correct it If something is wrong or out of date, tell us which detail to change and we will update it.
- Delete it You can ask us to delete a message you sent and your contact details. We will do it unless we are required to keep the record for a legal reason, and we will explain if that applies.
- Change cookie choices Use the cookie settings to switch optional cookies off again. The setting takes effect from your next page view on this site.
- Complain If you are unhappy with how we handled a request, contact us first so we can put it right, and you may also raise it with the data protection authority that applies to you.
Common questions about privacy here
These are the questions readers ask most often when they write to us about the site itself rather than about their plants.
Do I need an account to read the plant guides?
No. There is no account, no newsletter gate and no login on this site. You can read every guide on choosing easy-care houseplants, placing plants in small flats, lighting, watering, repotting and building a care routine without giving us any personal details.
What happens after I send the contact form?
Your message lands in our inbox along with the name and email you typed. We read it during office hours and reply to the address you gave. The form also asks you to confirm that you agree to your details being used to answer you; we keep that confirmation with the message as a record of your consent.
Can I use the site with all optional cookies turned off?
Yes. Refusing measurement cookies changes nothing about the guides, the photos or the reading experience. The only cookies we set without asking are the ones that store your cookie choice and keep the pages working.
Is my plant question treated as private?
Yes. We do not publish messages, names or photos sent by readers, and we do not use them as examples in articles. If a question is useful to other readers, we write a fresh answer in our own words rather than quoting you.
How will I know if this policy changes?
When we update this privacy policy, the revised text appears on this page. If a change affects how we use information you already sent us, we will tell you by email before the change applies to your data.

Other policies that apply to this site
This privacy policy covers personal data. Two related documents cover how the site is used and how cookies are handled, and they are worth a short read if you plan to write to us or reuse anything you find here.
